Approximately, 30,000 youth get trained annually in 83 trades in 18 trade sectors from the VTA. The commitment of the Authority does not end once the trainees complete their course of training. They are directed to local and foreign employment and also provided with financial assistance to start their own small businesses. Entrepreneurship training and vocational self employment opportunities in the respective fields are provided through career guidance and entrepreneur training. A financial assistance scheme called “Self Employment Promotion Initiative (SEPI)” is also in operation to provide loans for those who intend to start self employment.
Also, the VTA works with industry sectors with the intention of giving industry exposure to trained youth, making them more industry relevant. Public-Private Partnership Schemes are underway where current knowledge of trainees as well as trainers are upgrade & updated. New Technology is brought to the classrooms through these arrangements.
The newly introduced National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 5 in Information Communication Technology (ICT) will be ceremonially launched with the inauguration of the INFOTEL 2014 at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike International Exhibition Centre. Then even the interested youth in rural areas too will have the opportunity to get the “Internationally Recognized Qualification”, ICT NVQ Level 5 without spending large sums of money at foreign universities, and studying within their own surroundings happily & peacefully. Further, once they successfully complete NVQ Level 5 in ICT, the doors for NVQ Level 6 & 7 which is equal to the Degree will be opened at the University of Vocational Technology (UNIVOTEC).
VTA firmly believes that “Learning” is a Life Long Journey and that, the opportunities for education must be further widened. VTA as a state owned organization have opened the New Avenues for youth of this country and assures that VTA will give the maximum benefit by way of providing high skilled Academic & Technical support to the YOUTH who is the country’s driving force.
